Abiotic factors and Biotic factors

·      Which abiotic factors were difficult to control over the holidays?

The most difficult abiotic factors to control over the holidays were the amount of sunlight the plants got and weather the filtration systems got clogged or not.

·      What arrangements or modifications did you make for watering the window farm during the holidays?

We got a submersible pump that pumped water from a reservoir, through a pipe into the top of the window farm. We put a valve at the top of the pipe so that we could regulate the speed of water flow through the pipe.

Did the watering system work properly? Explain your answer

The watering system worked properly because the water was pumped to the top of the pipe, through the valve and through the window farm. The water was then collected in the reservoir and pumped back up again.

State 3 abiotic factors that influenced the growth of plants in your window farm and state how they influenced the plant growth

Water: a lack of water can mean that your plant can dehydrate and die but also too much water can drown the plants. Sunlight: Too little sunlight can mean tat your plants wont grow as much and as fast as others do and can die. Oxygen: Plants can suffocate if there is not enough oxygen in the soil for the plants to breathe.

Biotic Factors: Plant Growth

We did not take a picture of our window farm before the holidays so here is a picture of it after the holidays.

  2. You did not explain how the abiotic factors influenced the growth of plants in your window farm!
